4A Pikes Peak recap Oct. 3, 2012
Ponderosa scored a stunning upset when it knocked off Vista Ridge, 30-7. At the time, the Wolves was ranked 11th in the state, while the Mustangs was 29th.
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Vista Ridge, who took down 11th ranked Vista Ridge, 30-7. Corry Williams ran for 204 yards in the win.
Kalen Ballage was the best wideout in 4A Pikes Peak this week as Falcon defeated Sand Creek. Ballage tallied four receptions for 100 yards. Eric Robinson helped Falcon's passing attack out by catching two balls for 52 yards.
Travis Knoche put up the best numbers through the air as Rampart beat Air Academy. He finished with 14 completions for 170 yards and two touchdowns. Knoche's favorite target this week was Clark Jones, who caught two passes for 77 yards.
Cody Schicktanz made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Rams bested the Kadets. The 5-foot-10 senior grabbed one sack.
6-foot-0 quarterback Knoche of Rampart is the league leader in passing yards this season with 863. He has also thrown six touchdowns. On the ground, Ponderosa's Williams has rushed for 694 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Dylan Flynn. The Liberty star has 27 catches for 525 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Liberty takes on Jamie Woodruff's team. The Lancers are currently in fourth, while the Mustangs are in first.
Ponderosa was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after beating Les Johnson's team 30-7. The Mustangs came in at 13 in the state poll after placing at number 29 last week.
