The Maritime Academy Charter Seadogs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their fifth straight loss. They took a 56-42 bruising from Simon Gratz. While losing is never fun, Maritime Academy Charter can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 637th, while Simon Gratz is ranked 220th).
Several Seadogs players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jaseer Mann, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Jadin Aviles was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with two steals.
Maritime Academy Charter struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They are winless (0-3) when they can't control their own glass like that.
Maritime Academy Charter's defeat was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 2-11. As for Simon Gratz, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 9-5.
Maritime Academy Charter will head out on the road to challenge Girard College at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Simon Gratz won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Olney at 3:15 p.m. on January 18th.
