Roosevelt extended their losing streak to five on Wednesday, dropping them down to 3-16. They came up short against the Grant Generals, falling 15-6. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Generals this season, with their most recent defeat being a 23-8 loss back in April.
Annabella Murphy and Penny Thurston did some serious damage despite the final result: Murphy went 3-for-4 with two runs, while Thurston got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one run. Taylor Wisner also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
As for Grant, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 11-7. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.8 runs over those games.
On Grant's side, Hazel Heron made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out 11 batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Heron has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI.
In other batting news, Grant got a massive performance out of Anya Rumage, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Gwyn Gerber was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base.
Coming up, Roosevelt will face off against Lincoln at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Roughriders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cardinals have averaged an impressive 6.4 runs per game this season. As for Grant, they will be playing in front of their home fans against McDaniel at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Mountain Lions have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.1 runs per game on average), something the Generals will no doubt try to take advantage of.
