St. Michael has gone 8-2 against Santa Fe Indian recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Horsemen will be playing in front of their home fans against the Braves at 11:00 a.m. St. Michael's is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.7 runs per game this season.
St. Michael's is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Robertson just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cardinals. The game marked the Horsemen's lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Adam Bird was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out eight batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits (and only one walk). What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in March.
Santa Fe Indian couldn't beat St. Michael's last Tuesday even though they stacked four runs on them in the seventh inning. The Braves fell just short of the Horsemen by a score of 6-5. Like the Horsemen, the Braves also had to let a streak go: they had won three straight, but that streak is no more.
Takoda Jones put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one hit in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Jones wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Talyn Kewanletzema, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run.
Santa Fe Indian's defeat dropped their record down to 12-5. As for St. Michael's, their loss dropped their record down to 15-8.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. St. Michael's has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Santa Fe Indian struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
St. Michael's skirted past Santa Fe Indian 6-5 in their previous meeting last Tuesday. Do the Horsemen have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Braves turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
