The Millbrook Wildcats were the 50-40 winner over the Wakefield Wolverines when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Millbrook took a hard 61-42 fall against the Wolverines on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Millbrook can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 347th, while the Wolverines are ranked 97th).
Despite the defeat, Millbrook saw an underclassman step up: Lauren Brown scored 20 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Brown has scored all season.
Wakefield's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lyla Bagwell, who scored 13 points along with seven steals. Maddison Mcintyre was another key contributor, scoring four points along with nine assists and seven rebounds.
Millbrook's defeat dropped their record down to 3-14. As for Wakefield, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season.
Millbrook will head out on the road to square off against the Knights at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Knightdale focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 27 on Thursday. As for Wakefield, they will be playing at home against the Huskies at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Heritage is no doubt hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses.
