The Whiteland Warriors waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with three straight wins but they left with four. They had just enough and edged Franklin Community out 67-64. The win was all the more spectacular given Whiteland's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 74th, while Franklin Community is ranked 16th).
Whiteland's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jaskirat Banwait, who scored 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Gavin Stubbe, who scored 18 points.
When it comes to explaining why Franklin Community lost, one person who can't be blamed is Micah Davis. Despite the final result, he scored 35 points along with eight rebounds and five assists. Davis has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last six times he's played. Another player making a difference was Kolt Nelson, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds.
Whiteland's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-5. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.7 points per game. As for Franklin Community, their loss ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-2.
Whiteland will head out on the road to face off against Greenwood Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Greenwood Christian Academy has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. Franklin Community will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Whiteland at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Whiteland's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last seven games.
