The Elizabeth Minutemen lost against the New Providence Pioneers back in December of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. Elizabeth's rough 63-43 loss to the Pioneers might stick with them for a while. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Elizabeth in their matchups with the Pioneers: they've now lost five in a row.
Elizabeth's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Alani Gordon, who scored 23 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Gordon has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Alexandra Koon, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and two blocks.
Elizabeth's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-5. As for New Providence, the victory was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Elizabeth will take on the Blue Devils at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for New Providence, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Cougars at 7:00 p.m. Chatham is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
