The Myrtle Point Bobcats will head out on the road to challenge the New Hope Christian Warriors at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Myrtle Point is coming into the game hot, having won their last six games.
Last Friday, Myrtle Point narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Days Creek 41-38. Given Myrtle Point's advantage in MaxPreps' Oregon basketball rankings (they are ranked 114th, while Days Creek is ranked 230th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
In what's become a running theme this season, New Hope Christian gave their fans yet another huge win on Saturday. They blew past Crosspoint Christian 55-12 on the road.
New Hope Christian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Avarly Barnett led the charge by dropping a double-double on 21 points and 11 rebounds. That makes it 13 consecutive games in which Barnett has scored at least a third of New Hope Christian's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Zumhofe, who almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine rebounds.
Myrtle Point is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 19-6 record this season. As for New Hope Christian, their win bumped their record up to 22-2.
Myrtle Point strolled past New Hope Christian in their previous matchup back in February of 2023 by a score of 64-48. Will Myrtle Point repeat their success, or does New Hope Christian have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
