The Apple Valley Sun Devils will head out on the road to square off against the Highland Bulldogs at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Apple Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
Apple Valley had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the seven-run drubbing they dealt Canyon Springs on Tuesday. The Sun Devils blew past the Cougars 8-1.
Makaylee Cerf spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up six Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Madison Buzzard, who fired off one home run, three triples, and three runs while going 4-for-4. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Samantha Soto also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Apple Valley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in six consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Highland got the win against Lancaster on Tuesday by a conclusive 13-3. The victory continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won four in a row.
Highland got a massive performance out of Aubrey Reyes, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Evalina Chavez, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Highland now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Apple Valley, the win got them back to even at 5-5-1.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Saturday. Apple Valley hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.9 home runs per game. However, it's not like Highland struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.9 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Apple Valley was able to grind out a solid victory over Highland in their previous matchup back in March of 2025, winning 6-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Sun Devils since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
