Basketball Recap: Heimir Helgason Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Legion Collegiate Academy

Asheville School (Independent) won the last time they faced Legion Collegiate Academy and things went their way on Saturday too. The Asheville School (Independent) Blues took down the Legion Collegiate Academy Lancers 56-38. Given the Blues' advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 109th in North Carolina, while the Lancers are ranked 408th in South Carolina), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Asheville School (Independent) to victory, but perhaps none more so than Heimir Helgason, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. The game was Helgason's 12th in a row with at least ten points. Miki Gacic was another key player, dropping a double-double on 12 points and ten assists.

Despite the loss, Legion Collegiate Academy still got an impressive performance from Jacob Siuta, who posted seven points.

Asheville School (Independent)'s win bumped their record up to 13-6. As for Legion Collegiate Academy, they have also traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-22 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Asheville School (Independent) has already played their next contest (against Carolina Day), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Legion Collegiate Academy will challenge South Charlotte at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. South Charlotte is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.2 points per game this season.
