The York Dukes's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their third straight loss. They fell 49-40 to Amherst. York was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Amherst apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2022.
Kiersten Portwine and Kinslee Kern certainly did their best on Saturday to try and avoid the loss. Portwine scored 13 points, while Kern scored 11 points along with five rebounds. Portwine scored a full 32.5% of York's points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lainey Portwine, who scored two points along with six rebounds and four steals.
York has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season. As for Amherst, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season.
York and Schuyler will face off on January 2, 2024 without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Schuyler is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses. As for Amherst, they will head out on the road to face off against Wood River on Tuesday.
