1. Hodgson Vo-Tech (Newark)
2013 finish: 11-2
Head coach: Frank Moffett
Team previewQuarterback
Raymond Jones is in his third year as a starter for Hodgson Vo-Tech. He led the team to a Division II state title last year and he could be the most dynamic player in the state. Besides passing for 1,389 yards and 20 touchdowns and rushing for 1,151 yards and 19 touchdowns, Jones was also a force on defense with 14 tackles for loss and five interceptions. Other Division I prospects on the team include offensive lineman
Jake Jones (6-foot-3, 275 pounds) and defensive tackle
Dwight Chavis (6-2, 285).

2013 finish: 10-2
Head coach: Mark DelPercio
Team previewThe Cavaliers will have to replace Boston College-bound Darius Wade, who earned first team all-state honors last year, along with all-state receiver Chris Godwin, who is at Penn State. The offense does return most of the line and the coach's son,
Vincent DelPercio, will be calling signals this year.
Erich Schneider, a returning second-team all-state selection, leads the defense. Both of Middletown's losses were to Salesianum last year. Middletown won state titles in 2012 and 2011.

2013 finish: 11-1
Head coach: William DiNardo
Team previewThe defending state champions lose a bunch of all-state players, including linebacker Troy Reeder to Penn State and tight end Brian O'Neill to Pittsburgh, but coach William DiNardo reportedly had 160 players out for practice to start the season and he returns 12 starters from last year.

2013 finish: 7-4
Head coach: John Wilson
Team previewThe Spartans return eight starters on offense and five on defense. Coach John Wilson feels he will have experience on the offensive line but that the key will be finding replacements for key starters on defense.
Matt Williams, a 6-foot-3 junior, will handle quarterback duties this year. His top target figures to be
Rhett Schweizer while
Markquise Normand, a 5-10, 210-pound junior, will join him in the backfield at fullback.
