Calhoun is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Jones is on a five-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. The Calhoun Sandcrabs will take on the Jones Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Friday, Calhoun didn't have too much trouble with Pleasanton on the road as they won 35-19.
Jayce Campos was on fire: he rushed for 200 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 10.0 yards per carry. Campos was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 50 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Holton Hadley, who rushed for 57 yards and two touchdowns on only five carries.
Meanwhile, Jones was fully in charge on Friday, breezing past Rockport-Fulton 50-17 at home. The result was nothing new for Jones, who have now won three games by 22 points or more so far this season.
Darion Perez had a dynamite game for Jones, rushing for 171 yards and three touchdowns on only seven carries, while also picking up 87 receiving yards and a touchdown. Elijah Sustaita was another key contributor, throwing for 145 yards and two touchdowns.
Their wins bumped Calhoun to 4-3 and Jones to 6-1.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's matchup: Calhoun has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 305.7 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Jones struggles in that department as they've been averaging 208 per game. It's looking like Friday's matchup might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Calhoun skirted past Jones 24-21 in their previous matchup back in October of 2022. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Jones' Isaiah Gonzales, who rushed for 136 yards and a touchdown on only ten carries. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be that much easier for Calhoun to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
