For the first time this season, Fairfield will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will face off against the Edwards County Lions at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Fairfield is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.
On Monday, Fairfield was able to grind out a solid victory over Lawrenceville, taking the game 6-3. The win continues a trend for the Mules in their matchups with the Indians: they've now won four in a row.
Kenry Hutchcraft was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She tossed seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Hutchcraft was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Dalanie Ellis, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That triple marked the first that she hit this season. Another player making a difference was Jocelynn Lee, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI.
Fairfield hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are 4-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Meanwhile, Edwards County waltzed into their contest on Monday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They put the hurt on the Bison with a sharp 13-1 victory. The Lions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matches by seven runs or more this season.
Lily Jones was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. She is on a roll when it comes to home runs, as she's now launched at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Braelyn Troyer was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
Fairfield now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Edwards County, their record is now 4-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Fairfield has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Edwards County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Fairfield couldn't quite finish off Edwards County when the teams last played back in April of 2024 and fell 17-15. Can the Mules avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
