Softball Game Preview: Western Hills Cougars vs. Southwest Raiders

The Western Hills Cougars will square off against the Southwest Raiders at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Southwest will be up against a hot Western Hills squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. The Cougars put the hurt on Diamond Hill-Jarvis with a sharp 9-3 win on Friday. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by six runs or more this season.

Addison Dudley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on three hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Sophia Castellanos and Taylor Torres did most of the damage at the plate: Castellanos scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4, while Torres went 1-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run was Torres' first of the season. Eva Almendarez was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Southwest won against Dunbar on Monday with 25 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Tuesday. Everything went the Raiders' way against Diamond Hill-Jarvis as they made off with a 25-15 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Raiders.

Western Hills' win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-7. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.8 runs over those games. As for Southwest, their win bumped their record up to 5-8.

Western Hills beat Southwest 18-14 in their previous meeting back in March. Do the Cougars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Raiders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
