Lutheran hasn't had much luck against Dixon recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Crusaders will head out on the road to challenge the Dukes & Duchesses at 4:30 p.m. Lutheran is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
On Wednesday, Lutheran came up short against Winnebago and fell 7-4.
Jake Guse made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Dixon was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 9-7 heartbreaker at the hands of Lutheran.
Jake Whelan was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. He has become a key player for Dixon: the team is 5-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 7-8 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Eli Kirchoff, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
Dixon's defeat dropped their record down to 12-9. As for Lutheran, their loss dropped their record down to 15-9.
Dixon's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Lutheran has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.3 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Dixon, though, as they've been averaging only 4 strikeouts. Will Lutheran keep running through batters, or will the Dukes & Duchesses buck the trend?
Lutheran came out on top in a nail-biter against Dixon in their previous matchup on Tuesday, sneaking past 9-7. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Crusaders since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
