Columbia Academy has gone a perfect 4-0 against Zion Christian Academy recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. Columbia Academy will square off against Zion Christian Academy at 12:00 p.m. Columbia Academy will be looking to extend their current ten-game winning streak.
Columbia Academy is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Lewis County 18-3 on Friday. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by eight runs or more this season.
Will Rhodes made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits (and not a single walk). What's more, he gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, Wyatt Ayers was a standout: he scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Noah Gibson also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Columbia Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .368 or higher in six consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Zion Christian Academy made easy work of Collinwood on Friday and carried off a 19-8 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Eagles.
Thatcher Looney was incredible, going a perfect 5-for-5 with eight RBI, three doubles, and one run. He is becoming a predictor of Zion Christian Academy's success: when he posts at least three hits the team is 2-1 (and 2-3 when he doesn't). Jack Handley was another key player, scoring three runs while going 3-for-4.
Columbia Academy's win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Zion Christian Academy, the win got them back to even at 4-4.
Saturday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Columbia Academy has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .479. However, it's not like Zion Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .495. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
