Given Crossroads Christian's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 147th, while Cape Fear Christian Academy is ranked 385th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Elyssa Phillps continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 22 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. That makes it three consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Crossroads Christian's points. Mattie Grissom was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds.
Cape Fear Christian Academy lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Glenna McLamb, who scored eight points along with four steals. McLamb hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Madeline Brocious, who scored seven points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Crossroads Christian's win bumped their record up to 12-4. As for Cape Fear Christian Academy, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season.
