Sheldon found their leader in sophomore Baron Sabir, who went 5 for 9 to rack up 23 points. That's the most points Sabir has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Sebastian James, who had 11 points in addition to seven rebounds and five blocks.
Sheldon was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Franklin only posted eight assists.
Meanwhile, Elk Grove managed to keep up with Franklin until halftime on Friday, but things quickly went downhill from there. Elk Grove lost 71-48 to Franklin. The Thundering Herd have struggled against the Wildcats recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Sheldon will need to focus on slowing down Jason Raga, one of several Elk Grove players who made an impact when they last played. He went 5 of 11 en route to 13 points. Raga continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. Danny Dennaoui was another key player, putting up five points and eight boards.
Sheldon pushed their record up to 16-9 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 74.8 points over those games. As for Elk Grove, their loss dropped their record down to 17-9.
Keep an eye on the arc in Wednesday's game: Sheldon has been dynamite from deep this season, having made 34.9% of their three-pointers per game. It's a different story for Elk Grove, though, as they've only made 29.7% of their threes this season. Given Sheldon's sizable advantage in that area, Elk Grove will need to find a way to close that gap.
Sheldon strolled past Elk Grove in their previous matchup two weeks ago by a score of 61-42. Does Sheldon have another victory up their sleeve, or will Elk Grove turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
