Basketball Recap: Pace Academy Comes Up Short

If Pace Academy was riding high fresh off their 69-2 takedown of Forest Park last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Knights took a 54-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Creekside Seminoles on Tuesday. The Knights haven't had much luck with the Seminoles recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

When it comes to explaining why Pace Academy lost, don't look at Lawson Monroe. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double with 21 points and 13 rebounds. Monroe's big performance that evening made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least 18 points. Britton McGurn was another key player, putting up six points and three steals.

Jacy Mitchell was her usual excellent self, almost dropping a double-double with 28 points and nine boards for Creekside. With that strong performance, Mitchell is now averaging an impressive 15.3 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Sydnee Hunter, who posted seven points in addition to eight rebounds and eight steals.

Pace Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Creekside, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pace Academy will host Midtown at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Creekside, they will take on Drew at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Drew's defense has only allowed 25.1 points per game this season, so Creekside's offense will have their work cut out for them.
