On Tuesday, Torrey Pines beat Sage Creek 66-53. Given Torrey Pines' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 44th, while Sage Creek is ranked 260th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Torrey Pines got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Cody Shen out in front who scored 22 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Shen has scored all season. Matin Madadkar was another key contributor, scoring 18 points along with six assists and three steals.
Meanwhile, La Costa Canyon strolled past El Camino with points to spare on Tuesday, taking the game 63-48. The victory was just what La Costa Canyon needed coming off of a 67-45 defeat in their prior game.
Torrey Pines' victory bumped their record up to 15-5. As for La Costa Canyon, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-4.
Things could have been worse for Torrey Pines, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 59-41 loss to La Costa Canyon in their previous matchup back in February of 2023.
