The Plainfield Central Wildcats will head out to face off against the Naperville Central Redhawks at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Plainfield Central is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
Having struggled with four defeats in a row, Plainfield Central turned things around against Yorkville Christian on Thursday. They walked away with a 10-5 victory over the Mustangs.
Kaylynn Howe tossed a big game, pitching six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits.
On the hitting side, Ava Sommerfeld was incredible, scoring two runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Ava Zitello also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Plainfield Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in four consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Naperville Central never let their opponents score last Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over Bolingbrook. The Redhawks have beaten the Raiders the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Raiders has come to flipping the script.
Shea Meech was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Meech was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Riley Silvers was a standout: she scored three runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Jamie Saran was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
Naperville Central's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Plainfield Central, the victory was their first at home , bumping their record up to 3-5.
Plainfield Central couldn't quite get it done against Naperville Central in their previous meeting back in April of 2023 as they fell 5-2. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
