The Troy Christian Eagles will face off against the Milton-Union Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Troy Christian is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season.
Troy Christian will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Tuesday, then bounced right back against Northridge on Wednesday. The Eagles were the clear victors by a 14-1 margin over the Polar Bears. While the Eagles didn't have the best season last year (they finished 11-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Landon Day was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Judah Simmons was a standout: he got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Marcus O'Neal was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Milton-Union, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They came out on top against Tri-Village by a score of 7-4 on Wednesday.
Karson Stone was incredible, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Dylan McGuffey, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs.
Troy Christian pushed their record up to 7-3 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for Milton-Union, their win bumped their record up to 9-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Troy Christian has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Milton-Union struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Troy Christian came up short against Milton-Union when the teams last played on April 3rd, falling 8-4. Will the Eagles have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
