The Glendale Prep Academy Griffins had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 23.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They took down Highland Prep 51-32. Given Glendale Prep Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 80th, while Highland Prep is ranked 240th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Senna Smith was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds. She has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Maggie Hawkins, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds.
Highland Prep lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Anahi Nunez, who scored 12 points. Nunez's trending in the right direction, as she's improved his point production for four games straight.
Highland Prep struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Glendale Prep Academy pulled down 21 offensive rebounds.
Glendale Prep Academy's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-3. As for Highland Prep, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Glendale Prep Academy will square off against BASIS Phoenix at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. BASIS Phoenix's defense has only allowed 27.2 points per game this season, so Glendale Prep Academy's offense will have their work cut out for them. Highland Prep's road trip will continue as they head out to face Northland Prep Academy at 5:30 p.m. on January 18th. Northland Prep Academy's defense has only allowed 28.6 points per game this season, so Highland Prep's offense will have their work cut out for them.
