The Dawson School Mustangs will be playing at home against the Gilpin County Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The pair have had a bumpy ride up to this point with four consecutive losses for Dawson School and 12 for Gilpin County.
Dawson School struggled with assists on Friday (SkyView Academy had nine more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Dawson School took a 57-42 bruising from SkyView Academy.
Dawson School's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Peter Ernst, who scored nine points along with 14 rebounds, and Isaiah Tu who scored 14 points. Tu continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. Derek Krug was another key contributor, scoring six points along with two steals.
Gilpin County suffered their biggest loss since November 30, 2023 on Saturday. They had to suffer through a rough 59-24 loss at the hands of Clear Creek. Gilpin County has not had much luck with Clear Creek recently, as the team's come up short the last eight times they've met.
Gilpin County's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Lane Willis, who scored four points along with seven rebounds and three steals, and Ben Bushey who scored four points along with 11 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Bushey pulled down eight or more rebounds.
Even though they lost, Gilpin County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Dawson School bumped their record down to 3-7 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Gilpin County, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-10.
Keep an eye on the arc in Tuesday's contest: Dawson School have been dynamite from deep this season, having only made 35.1% of their threes per game. It's a different story for Gilpin County, though, as they've only made 25.3% of their threes per game this season. Given Dawson School's sizeable advantage in that area, Gilpin County will need to find a way to close that gap.
