Pueblo is 0-10 against Canyon del Oro since February of 2016 but things could change on Friday. The Warriors will host the Dorados at 4:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Pueblo is headed into Friday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their eighth straight game on Wednesday. They fell 20-16 to Buena. Even if the Warriors couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.
Renata Nu?ez was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring four runs and stealing a base while going 5-for-5. Another player making a difference was Makayla Castanon, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 4-for-5.
Meanwhile, Canyon del Oro had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Wednesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Spartans a 17-0 shutout. The Dorados might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 18 games by six runs or more this season.
The team relied heavily on Kayla Hendrix, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Briseis Ramirez, who scored two runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
Canyon del Oro pushed their record up to 21-3 with the victory, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.5 runs on average over those games. As for Pueblo, their loss dropped their record down to 4-13.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Pueblo hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .388. However, it's not like Canyon del Oro struggles in that department as they've averaged .438. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
