District 10 Region 4 AA recap Oct. 23, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Girard, who took down 176th ranked Corry, 30-27.
Fairview was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fourth to second in District 10 Region 4 AA. The Tigers defeated Fort LeBoeuf 33-7 earlier in the week.
The Beavers' dynamic duo of Nathanel Smith and Matt Cragg proved tough for the Yellowjackets to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Smith threw for 193 yards and two touchdowns and Cragg had 97 yards receiving. Tyler Engle helped Corry's passing attack out by catching two balls for 72 yards.
Shannon Jackson was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 300 yards on 26 carries as Fairview fell to Girard. Teammate Ben Kocan added to the ground attack by rushing for 13 yards.
Homer DeLattre's team's Smith and Engle have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Smith has thrown for 1058 yards this season, while Engle, a 6-foot-2 receiver, has 31 catches for 440 yards. Jim Brinling's team's Jackson leads the league in rushing yards with 1861.
The top two teams in District 10 Region 4 AA will face off this week when first place Northwestern takes on second place Fairview. Last week, Northwestern defeated North East, while the Tigers topped the Bison.
Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when Fairview takes on the Wildcats. The Tigers' offense has scored 252 points this season, good for No. 1 in the league, while Northwestern has allowed only 110 on the year.
Jim Funk's team moved up to 308 from 353 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Yellowjackets climbed the ranks as a result of topping the Beavers 30-27.
