The New Covenant School Cavaliers waltzed into their game on Thursday with eight straight wins but they left with nine. They walked away with a 51-42 victory over Cambridge Academy. That's another feather in the cap for New Covenant School, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Cambridge Academy's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jillian Mapes, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 14 rebounds. Indya Southerland was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
New Covenant School pushed their record up to 16-1 with that victory, which was their 20th straight at home. They've been dominating during the contests in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 23.3 points. As for Cambridge Academy, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-6 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. New Covenant School won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Oakwood Christian at 6:00 p.m. on January 26th.
