After a string of eight wins, Kossuth's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the New Albany Bulldogs. While the Aggies didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Bulldogs 25-15 in the first set.
Kossuth started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 15-25, 26-24, 25-15, 25-14.
Dallyn Haupt paced Kossuth's offense, picking up 22 kills. Haupt got some help from Brenyn Wilbanks and her 37 assists. Wilbanks was also solid from the service line: she led the team with three aces.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead New Albany to victory, but perhaps none more so than Sara Barton Ozbirn, who had 18 assists and eight digs. Those 18 assists gave Ozbirn a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lizzie Moore, who had eight digs and two aces.
Kossuth's defeat dropped their record down to 15-4-2. As for New Albany, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 15 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-7-2 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Kossuth will venture away from home to take on Booneville at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for New Albany, they will head out to face off against Center Hill at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
