The Wake Forest Cougars have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four matchups by 20 points or more this season. They breezed by Sanderson on the road to the tune of 76-48. Given Wake Forest's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 87th, while Sanderson is ranked 453rd), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Wake Forest's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Audra Hillman, who scored 19 points along with six rebounds. Hillman is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Chiquora Miles was another key contributor, scoring 19 points along with seven rebounds.
Despite the defeat, Sanderson had strong showings from Summer Haith, who scored 23 points, and Amyah Lynn, who scored 16 points. Lynn scored a full 33.3% of Sanderson's points, the ninth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Abby Stephens, who scored four points.
Even though they lost, Sanderson were working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Wake Forest has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season. As for Sanderson, they bumped their record down to 3-9 with that loss, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wake Forest will take on Leesville Road at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Sanderson, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Knightdale at 6:30 p.m. Knightdale is coming into the match hot, having won their last four games.
