Softball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Girard

Girard entered their tilt with Maplewood on Saturday with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. They put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 14-1 victory. Considering the Yellowjackets have won ten games by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Girard got a massive performance out of Payton VanDamia, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two triples, three runs, and two RBI. Those two triples gave VanDamia a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Laurel Brink, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles.

Girard always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Girard's win bumped their record up to 11-5. As for Maplewood, their defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 5-8.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Girard will host Northwestern at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Maplewood, they will square off against Sharpsville at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
