Baseball Recap: Cheyenne Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Cheyenne proved they can win big last Friday (they won by 19) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Western Warriors 7-5. For the Desert Shields, this counts as revenge for the 16-0 victory the Warriors walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2023.

Raider Campos made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, two runs, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Cheyenne let Scott Cox and Taven Thaker run wild. Cox scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2, while Thaker scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2. Cox is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Esai Esparza, who scored a run and stole a base.

The win was the third in a row for Cheyenne, bringing their record for this year to 3-0. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Western, their defeat was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-2.

Coming up, Cheyenne will head out to challenge Pinecrest Academy Cadence at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Western, it'll be Eastside v. Westside when they and Mater Academy East Las Vegas meet at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Western's pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so Mater Academy East Las Vegas' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
