Basketball Game Preview: Huntingtown Hurricanes vs. Thomas Stone Cougars

Huntingtown is 9-1 against Thomas Stone since December of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. The Huntingtown Hurricanes will challenge the Thomas Stone Cougars at 6:30 p.m. Huntingtown is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.

Last Monday, Huntingtown didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against King's Christian Academy, but they still walked away with a 35-29 victory. The 35-point effort marked the Hurricanes' lowest-scoring game of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Huntingtown's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Eva Powell led the charge by almost dropping a double-double on nine points and 12 boards. Powell is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down ten or more in the last 12 games she's played dating back to last season. Hannah Graham was another key player, putting up eight points along with ten rebounds and three blocks.

Huntingtown smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 24 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in seven consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Thomas Stone was just a bucket shy of victory on Monday and fell 34-33 to Great Mills. The Cougars have struggled against the Hornets recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.

Thomas Stone's loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 4-4. As for Huntingtown, they pushed their record up to 7-0 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Huntingtown beat Thomas Stone 27-15 when the teams last played back in January of 2024. Does Huntingtown have another victory up their sleeve, or will Thomas Stone turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
