The Lexington Tigers will square off against the Henry County Patriots at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.
Lexington took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. Everything went their way against Huntingdon as Lexington made off with a 9-1 victory.
Lauren Johnson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Kinley Melton and Carly Williams did most of the damage at the plate: Melton scored two runs while going 3-for-3, while Williams scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3. What's more, Williams posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Holly Bartholomew, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Henry County made easy work of Clarksville on Tuesday and carried off a 13-5 win.
Henry County also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Irelynn Beecham gave up five earned runs on eight hits and racked up eight Ks.
At the plate, Layne Latimer was incredible, going 3-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Reed Jackson was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-5.
Henry County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits every time they've taken the field this season.
Lexington has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. Henry County now has a winning record of 2-1.
Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Lexington hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .324. However, it's not like Henry County struggles in that department as they've averaged .352. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Lexington might still be hurting after the 10-2 defeat they got from Henry County in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can Lexington avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
