Charlie Pearce made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out 11 batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Monarch is undefeated when Pearce posts ten or more strikeouts, but 4-13 otherwise. Pearce was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Blake Thompson, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Monarch: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 5-12 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Ian Babcock, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.
Meanwhile, Centaurus came up short against Silver Creek on Thursday, falling 9-3.
Centaurus saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tavian Gomez, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
Monarch's win bumped their record up to 7-13. As for Centaurus, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-11-1 record this season.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Monarch has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Centaurus struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
