The D'Evelyn Jaguars pushed their score all the way to 65 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. Their rough 87-65 defeat to Green Mountain might stick with them for a while. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Wednesday (58), D'Evelyn still had to take the loss.
When it comes to explaining why D'Evelyn lost, one person who can't be blamed is Taj Kumar. Despite the final result, he scored 17 points along with seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Liam Smith, who scored 12 points along with two steals.
Austin Beeson was his usual excellent self, going 6 for 10 from beyond the arc en route to 26 points and 5 assists for Green Mountain. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Beeson has scored all season. Aj Maher was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
This is the second loss in a row for D'Evelyn and nudges their season record down to 9-11. As for Green Mountain, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-8.
D'Evelyn won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Golden at 11:30 a.m. on February 10th. Golden is coming into the game with three straight wins at home, so D'Evelyn is out to stop a squad with plenty of momentum. Green Mountain will take on Standley Lake at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Green Mountain knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 20 games -- so hopefully Standley Lake likes a good challenge.
