Spring Grove is 1-9 against Dallastown since April of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Rockets will look to defend their home field against the Wildcats at 4:15 p.m.
Spring Grove is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 23 runs on Wednesday, they were much more limited against Waynesboro on Friday. They lost 8-2 to the Indians.
Abrum Dull was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Dull was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one double. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.

In other batting news, Tanner Hoffman made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two doubles and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of Spring Grove's success: when he posts at least three hits the team is 3-1 (and 4-6-1 when he doesn't). Logan McMaster also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, Dallastown waltzed into their game on Friday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They skirted past the Lions 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Wildcats have posted against the Lions since May 2, 2022.
Like Spring Grove, Dallastown also got a great game from a two-way player: Carson Meyer. On the mound, he pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meyer has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, earning one run and two stolen bases.
In other pitching news, Matt Stone tossed a big game, tossing 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Cade Flinchbaugh, who went 1-for-2 with one home run.
Dallastown's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-6. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Spring Grove, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-7-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Spring Grove has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Dallastown struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
