4A Region I District 2 recap September 24, 2013
Canutillo moved up to 332 from 444 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 4A Region I District 2. The Eagles climbed the ranks as a result of beating Horizon 49-7.
San Elizario lost to Eastlake 54-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Miguel Rubio in the defeat.
Steven Montez threw for 287 yards and 6 touchdowns. He was 22-32 with 1 interception.
WAYNE HARRIS was the best receiver in the league this week as Parkland fell to Del Valle. HARRIS racked up 6 receptions for 98 yards.
Bryan Baca was the most successful running back in the league this week. He ran for 80 yards on 10 carries as Canutillo lost to the Conquistadores. Javier Gomez also contributed to the rushing game with 69 yards on the ground.
Montez put up the best numbers through the air as Del Valle topped Parkland. Montez's favorite target this week was Jacob Robles, who caught 4 passes for 75 yards.
6-foot-5 quarterback Montez of Jesse Perales' team is the league leader in passing yards this season with 759. He has also thrown 13 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Erik Camacho. The Horizon star has 11 catches for 261 yards.
An important game coming up in 4A Region I District 2 this week will be when Scott Brooks' team takes on Jerry Walker's team. The Eagles are currently in sixth, while the Matadors are in first.
