The La Plata Warriors will face off against the Huntingtown Hurricanes at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
La Plata took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. Everything went their way against Great Mills as they made off with a 13-1 win. The Warriors haven't had any issues with the Hornets recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Rylee Dennison made a splash no matter where she played. She pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, La Plata got a massive performance out of Vivian Lloyd, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most hits Lloyd has posted since back in March. Madalyn Earnshaw was another key player, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.
La Plata was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .536. They are a perfect 10-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Huntingtown got the win against McDonough on Friday by a conclusive 24-3. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Hurricanes.
Like La Plata, Huntingtown also got a great game from a two-way player: Jordyn Greever. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits (and only one walk). Greever was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, two doubles, and one run.
In other batting news, Madalee Hunley was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Another player making a difference was Kayla Ripple, who went 2-for-4 with six RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Huntingtown pushed their record up to 14-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.5 runs over those games. As for La Plata, their win bumped their record up to 10-7.
Both La Plata and Huntingtown just can't seem to miss. The Warriors have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.6 hits per game. However, it's not like Huntingtown struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 2.2 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
La Plata might still be hurting after the 10-0 loss they got from Huntingtown when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will the Warriors have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
