Sacred Heart is 10-0 against Waggener since February of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Sacred Heart Valkyries will be playing at home against the Waggener Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. Sacred Heart will be coming into the contest with an undefeated record on the line.
Sacred Heart has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four matches by 20 points or more this season. Everything went their way against Assumption on Sunday as Sacred Heart made off with a 70-50 victory. Given Sacred Heart's advantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky basketball rankings (they are ranked second, while Assumption is ranked 90th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Sacred Heart can attribute much of their success to ZaKiyah Johnson, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds, and Angelina Pelayo, who scored 20 points along with 7 rebounds and 5 steals. That makes it two consecutive games in which Johnson has scored at least 25% of Sacred Heart's points. Reagan Bender was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with 5 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Waggener came up short against Seneca on Friday and fell 44-33. Waggener has struggled against Seneca recently, as their matchup on Friday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Sacred Heart has yet to lose a game at home this season, leaving them with a 6-0 record. As for Waggener, they now have a losing record at 1-2.
Everything came up roses for Sacred Heart against Waggener in their previous meeting back in December of 2022 as the squad secured a 79-12 win. Will Sacred Heart repeat their success, or does Waggener have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
