The Monmouth-Roseville Titans are taking a road trip to take on the Sherrard Tigers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Monmouth-Roseville is coming into the game on a five-game losing streak.
Things were looking good for Monmouth-Roseville after they put the first run on the board on Tuesday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They lost 14-4 to Monmouth United.
Monmouth-Roseville saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Elijah Noel, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That double was Noel's first of the season.
Meanwhile, Sherrard sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-6 win over Ridgewood [AlWood/Cambridge] on Wednesday. The victory continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Spartans: they've now won five in a row.
Sherrard also got a great performance from Zach Knox as he struck out six batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. That's the most strikeouts Knox has posted since back in March.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Eli Matson, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last six games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Carter Brown, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
Monmouth-Roseville's defeat dropped their record down to 7-17. As for Sherrard, their record now sits at 13-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Monmouth-Roseville has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Sherrard struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Monmouth-Roseville might still be hurting after the 12-0 loss they got from Sherrard when the teams last played on Monday. Can the Titans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
