Winchester Community hasn't had much luck against Knightstown recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Golden Falcons are taking a road trip to challenge the Panthers at 5:30 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their matches after big wins in their previous games.
Knightstown will square off against a team with plenty of momentum: Winchester Community extended their winning streak to four on Monday. The Golden Falcons blew past Muncie Central 11-1.
Winchester Community got a big performance out of Landen Porfidio, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. That's the most stolen bases Porfidio has posted since back in April of 2024. Jace Allen also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Winchester Community was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Muncie Central only posted a batting average of .176.
Meanwhile, Knightstown put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They put the hurt on Eastern Hancock with a sharp 8-1 win. That's two games straight that the Panthers have won by exactly seven runs.
Camden Gorman made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Gorman was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-5. Gorman is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season.
Gorman wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kason Weaver, who scored two runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Another was Kelton Weaver, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
Winchester Community pushed their record up to 4-0 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.4 runs over those games. As for Knightstown, their record is now 3-0.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Winchester Community has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Knightstown struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Winchester Community came out on top in a nail-biter against Knightstown in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 2-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Golden Falcons since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
