The Tree of Life Christian Trojans will head out on the road to face off against the Newark Catholic Green Wave at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Tree of Life Christian's defense has only allowed 27.3 points per game this season, so Newark Catholic's offense will have their work cut out for Newark Catholic.
Last Friday, Tree of Life Christian welcomed the New Year with a 20-16 victory over Delaware Christian. The victory was all the more spectacular given Tree of Life Christian's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 613th, while Delaware Christian is ranked 252nd).
Meanwhile, Newark Catholic put another one in the bag on Sunday to keep their perfect season alive. They snuck past Fisher Catholic with a 56-52 win. Newark Catholic's victory was all the more impressive since Fisher Catholic was averaging only 24.17 points allowed on the season.
Newark Catholic's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Sophie Chard Peloquin, who scored 13 points along with seven assists, and Kylie Gibson, who scored 21 points along with seven rebounds and five steals. That makes it six consecutive games in which Gibson has scored at least 25% of Newark Catholic's points. Another player making a difference was Natalie Harrington, who scored eight points.
Tree of Life Christian's record is now 3-4. As for Newark Catholic, they pushed their record up to 6-0 with that win, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season.
Tree of Life Christian came up short against Newark Catholic when the teams last played back in February, falling 30-19. Can Tree of Life Christian avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
