The Coronado Mustangs will challenge the Amarillo Sandies at 7:00  p.m.  on Thursday. Coronado is looking for their season's first  win.
Things were looking good for Coronado after they put the first  points on the board on Friday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell  36-26 to Caprock. While the Mustangs didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Longhorns  7-0 in the first  quarter.
Coronado's  defeat came about despite a quality game from  Campbell Stanek, who picked up 140 receiving yards.
 Coronado didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of  Isaiah Doss and  Torrance Cox.  Trae-Anthony Thompson was another major factor on D,  making 13 total tackles (1.0 for loss).
Meanwhile,  there's no place like home for Amarillo, who bounced back after a  loss on the road  on October 3rd. They took their  contest  last Thursday with ease, bagging  a  45-10 victory over Caprock. The result was nothing new for the Sandies, who have now won three games by 20  points or more  so far this season.
 Coronado better keep an eye on  Jude Dunavin. He was instrumental in Amarillo's win, rushing for 116 yards and a pair of  TDs on only 12 carries, while also catching one  touchdown. Dunavin's rushing production has been exceptional  recently as that marked his fourth straight game with at least 116  rushing yards.  Creed Cavalier also deserves a mention for his  punt return touchdown.
 Amarillo's win bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Coronado, their loss dropped their record down to 0-8.
 Coronado was taken down by Amarillo 54-14 when the teams last played  back in October of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of  the Sandies'  Jett Lopez, who threw for 291 yards and four  TDs while picking up 11.2 yards per attempt, and also rushed for 92 yards and a pair of  scores.
