The Wayne County Wildcats pushed their score all the way to 57 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 67-57 to Hughes. It was the first time this season that Wayne County let down their fans at home.
Despite the loss, Wayne County saw an underclassman step up: Cayman Camfield dropped a double-double on 27 points and 11 rebounds. That was a full 47.4% of Wayne County's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Justice Bell, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds.
Wayne County's defeat ended an eight-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 14-8. As for Hughes, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wayne County will take on Huntland at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Huntland is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road. As for Hughes, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Mt. Pleasant at 7:00 p.m. on January 27th. Hopefully Mt. Pleasant focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 on Friday.
