Manitou Springs is 4-0 against Banning Lewis Academy since February of 2021, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Saturday. The Manitou Springs Mustangs will head out on the road to challenge the Banning Lewis Academy Stallions at 7:00 p.m.
Manitou Springs suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Tuesday. They were beaten by The Vanguard School 63-30. While losing is never fun, Manitou Springs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 195th, while The Vanguard School is ranked 42nd).
Meanwhile, Banning Lewis Academy came tearing into Tuesday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18 points) and they left with even more momentum. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Ellicott 71-30 on the road. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 37-10.
Trey Oden was his usual excellent self, scoring 17 points along with six rebounds and five assists. Another player making a difference was Tyson Robertson, who scored six points along with eight assists and three steals.
Manitou Springs now has a losing record at 6-7. As for Banning Lewis Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 11-3.
Everything went Manitou Springs' way against Banning Lewis Academy when the teams last played back in January of 2023 as Manitou Springs made off with a 70-48 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Manitou Springs since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
