Basketball Recap: Montpelier Skates Past Spaulding with Ease

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Montpelier). They couldn't have asked for a better start to 2025 than the 86-38 blowout they got against the Spaulding Crimson Tide. The Solons have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three matchups by 22 points or more this season.

Montpelier's win on Saturday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Clayton Foster, who went 6 of 8 on his way to 16 points and four steals. With that strong performance, Foster is now averaging an impressive 2.2 steals per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Carson Cody, who went 7 for 12 on his way to 20 points and five rebounds.

Montpelier smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in three consecutive contests.

Montpelier's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-1. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 79.7 points per game. As for Spaulding, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 4-2.

Montpelier will head out to take on U-32 at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Montpelier is facing U-32 at the right time seeing as U-32 is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Spaulding, they will take on Lamoille at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
