Lourdes has gone 9-1 against Lake City recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Eagles will host the Tigers at 11:00 a.m. Lourdes' pitching crew has only allowed 3.3 runs per game this season, so Lake City's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Lourdes is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Cannon Falls just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Bombers by a score of 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Eagles have suffered since May 11, 2024.
Nicholas Bowron made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Lake City earned a 9-4 win over Kenyon-Wanamingo on Friday.
Aaron Lou made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. He also put up a triple, which was his first of the season.
In other batting news, Lake City let Asher Bee and Landon Wiemann run wild. Bee got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Wiemann went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Those three runs gave Bee a new career-high.
Lake City has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 3-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Lourdes, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Lourdes has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Lake City struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Lourdes came up short against Lake City when the teams last played back in May of 2024, falling 7-4. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
