Section 3 Class D - East recap Sept. 26, 2012
West Canada Valley extended the longest winning streak in Section 3 Class D - East this week by beating Sauquoit Valley, 14-7. The win marks fourth in a row for the the Indians.
Mohawk moved up to 447 from 542 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. A 42-13 win over Cooperstown helped the Mohicans improve their standing.
The Redskins' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Noah Sims threw for 120 and one touchdown and Kevin Segit had 113 yards receiving. On the ground Lucas Lyons chipped in 65 yards. Sawyer Haney helped Cooperstown's passing attack out by catching two balls for 32 yards.
Cooperstown's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Redskins feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Sims has thrown for 312 yards and three touchdowns this season, while Segit has 12 catches for 180 yards. Lyons leads the league in rushing with 175 yards.
A big matchup in Section 3 Class D - East this week will be when Dolgeville takes on the Indians. The Blue Devils are in second place, while Sauquoit Valley is in third place.
Mohawk was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to fourth in the league. Roy Upson's team defeated Cooperstown 42-13 earlier in the week.
