The New Covenant Gryphons can finally bid farewell to their four-game losing streak thanks to their game on Tuesday. They walked away with a 38-27 victory over North Cross. Given New Covenant's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 165th, while the Raiders are ranked 337th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Brielle Walker continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 19 points along with five rebounds and three steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of New Covenant's points. Another player making a difference was Charlotte Libbey, who scored eight points.
Despite the loss, North Cross still got an impressive performance from Cate Overton, who scored eight points along with six rebounds. Eliza Vogel was another key contributor, scoring six points.
New Covenant's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-5. As for North Cross, their loss dropped their record down to 4-10.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. New Covenant won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Turtles at 4:30 p.m. on January 24th. Chatham Hall comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 16 points in their last four games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. As for North Cross, they will head out on the road to challenge the Cardinals at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Jefferson Christian Academy will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive.
